Joe Willie Namath |
Even though a knee injury limited his senior
season, he was still instrumental in leading
the Tide to a national title in 1964. In the 1965
Orange Bowl game against Texas, Namath came
off the bench to complete 18 passes for 255 yards
and a pair of touchdowns to earn MVP honors
in the 21-17 loss. He tied with Kenny Stabler for
quarterback honors on the Tide's Team of the
Century and team of the decade for the 1960s.
He went on to a Hall of Fame career with the
New York Jets of the NFL, highlighted by a
Super Bowl III MVP performance in 1969. Copyrighted by The University of Alabama / Paul W. Bryant Museum Edited by David Mize |
