In the final Associated Press poll, the first ever tabulated, Alabama finished fourth in the nation after posting an 8-0-1 record. A 0-0 tie with Tennessee was a painful scar on the record for it cost Bama the SEC title and a post-season bowl appearance.
Guard Arthur "Tarzan" White, known as a fierce defender but even better pulling blocker, earned unanimous All-American recognition. He would soon earn distinction as a Phi Beta Kappa alumnus but his greatest fame came when he earned the belt as the World's Heavyweight Wrestling Champion.
Quarterback Riley Smith, an All-American in '35 and a future College Hall of Famer, led the Tide offense and he failed to duplicate his A-A honors but he was an All-SEC choice. |
